6th Year Guidance
Presentations
The Guidance Department provides presentations throughout the school year on the following topics:
- Study Skills, Motivation and Goal Setting (Outside Agency)
- UCAS Application Process
- CAO System and Application Process
- DARE/HEAR
- PLC Colleges and Other Alternatives
- End of Year General Information & Advice
- Study & Stress
The purpose of these presentations is to assist students in making informed decisions in the progression to 3rd Level.
Resources:
Announcements, assignments and other resources are posted on regular basis on Google classrooms, with information in relation to college open days, study skills, motivation, wellbeing, colleges, etc.
6th Year Guidance Programme
September
- Half day seminar on study skills and exam techniques
- UCAS application process (for interested students only) for Veterinary, Dentistry, Medicine, Oxford and Cambridge
- Meet with 6th Year students to begin Vocational Guidance Interviews
October - December
- Information Session for parents re "Options After Leaving School", CAO Application Process, HEAR, DARE, Apprenticeships, PLCs and Finance
- Follow up meeting with students (if requested) to further explore the CAO Application Process and 3rd Level Progression
- Virtual College and University School Visits and College Open Days
- UCAS application process (for interested students only)
January - March
- Completing DARE and HEAR applications with students.
- Follow up meeting with students (if requested) to further explore the CAO Application Process and 3rd Level Progression
- Exploring and applying to academic and sporting scholarships.
- Individual career appointments (on request) for PLC applications
- Virtual 3rd Level School Visits and College Open Days
April - May
- Student Finance including SUSI information session
- Follow up meeting with students (if requested) to further explore the CAO Application Process and 3rd Level Progression
- Personal Counselling for students as required
