Study Skills
In-House Study Skills and External Agency
Academic success in secondary school requires several elements to be in place. Regular attendance, good punctuality, adherence to school rules and consistent attention to homework, are the basics needed for a smooth progression in secondary school.
However, experience shows, year in year out, that it is a mistake to assume that once all of the above are in place, that success is guaranteed. Something extra is needed, i.e. study.
Here in DCS, the Guidance Counsellor visits the classes at the start of the academic year and delivers study skill classes and study skill resources are posted on Google classroom. Each year group is also offered a half day study skills workshop hosted by an external agency.
Guidance-related learning continues through the Wellbeing and SPHE programme, which is designed to develop self-management and personal organisation skills including goal setting, study skills, coping skills and reflection skills.
